I asked about this elsewhere but I guess this is the better place.

I want to film common lizards in the garden over a long period on a couple of favoured basking spots.

As it is in the garden I want a set-up that can run off the mains and be monitored, recorded and edited on my computer.

I want the camera colour, capable of working in outdoor light and able to focus at about 3 feet maybe a lot less and possibly with some zoom/pan ability. It will also need a good sample rate to capture the behaviour I want to film.

I'm utterly clueless as to what technology is out there and what would be the best purchase and a bit of web browsing has just left my head spinning regarding all the options!

So if anyone can give me some pointers to what I should be looking for or cams that have been successful for filming smaller wildlife in detail please help! Also if anyone could suggest a techy forum where they might know the answers that might help.

(assume budget is ú500 for the whole set-up, preferably with two camera but one if it is the better option).

Ta Andy, much better prices than some similar solutions I was looking at. The big sticking point is whether or not the security type cameras will focus on a common lizard.. anyone know how I would tell?

Hi Gemma

well this is the Blackknight e-mail address

info@swann.com.au  might be worth an E-mail to ask what the focusing range is? tell them what your going to do with it they might be able to suggest something

PDF link is here http://media.transaction-one.com/media/uploads/SWA/PDF/1384. pdf    not a great deal of info, but it might help

What about a good quality webcam, with zoom and 'face tracking'?Obviously weatherproofing it might be an issue.
